Watt powers way to Charlie’s prize

Watt powers way to Charlie’s prize

22 August 2012

CHARLIE Corry’s President’s Day at Spa on Saturday last was almost a mirror image of his Captain’s Day at the Ballynahinch club 17 years ago.

On that occasion in 1995 his son Alan won top prize and last weekend he went so agonisingly close to completing what would have been a dream double.

As is always the case on these big showcase events at Spa, the competition was tough and spirited with Simon Watt taking the top prize, Robert Stevenson a close second and Alan Corry finishing a highly credible third overall.

Pat Savage was the popular winner of the past president’s prize while Ken Reid was back in form to take the gross prize.

In the ladies’ competition played on Friday last Pam Trohear was the undisputed winner and admitted she was “thrilled to bits” to finish first.

The Spa president said a large number of club officials, members, friends and staff had combined to make the two day event such a successful and memorable occasion.

Mr Corry. said the groundsmen had not had an easy year because of the horrendous weather conditions, but they did a wonderful job in keeping the course in such great condition.

The president also thanked his wife Anne and members of his family for their magnificent support and advice both on the day and in the weeks of preparation.

The master of ceremonies was Mr. Jim Graham.
