Vikings preparing to take part in fesitval

MEMBERS of the local Magnus Vikings are taking part in this summer’s Sunflowerfest three-day music and arts festival on Tubby’s Farm just outside Hillsborough.

The locals will be providing entertainment and family fun in their Viking village during the popular August festival which organisers have described as a truly diverse and immersive experience offering a superb range of music, comedy, poetry, film, dance, family fun and much more.

The Magnus Vikings meet for weekly training sessions in Saul or Annadorn and have approximately 45 members of all ages between two months and 60 years of age.

They practice living history, archery, battle re-enactment, textiles, kiddies battle drill and they have three longboats and a female rowing team.

“We wanted to be part of Sunflowerfest as some of us have been going for years and when we were given the opportunity to be part of it we were overjoyed,” said a spokesman for the group. “The Sunflowerfest ethos of family friendly, all inclusivity, matches very well with our own ethos.”

The Hillsborough event starts on August 5 and features six venues and over 120 acts. Every adult ticket admits two children of 15 years or younger free and all the planned kids’ activities at the festival are also free.

With interactive theatre performances, nature walks and talks, creative workshops of every kind, this year’s Sunflowerfest is shaping up to be an unmissable family experience. Tickets  are available online www.sunflowerfest.co.uk or at Visit Belfast Welcome centre, telephone (028) 9024 6609.
