Unbeaten Dundrum canter past Bright

23 May 2012

A DISPLAY of accurate point-taking brought Dundrum their eighth successive win in Division 4.

A very healthy tally of 0-18 was kicked over the bar in the first half. The Duns used the light breeze on their backs to shoot from long range and time after time the ball split the posts.

Paul McComiskey was to the fore during this period. He thundered over seven minors from play and added a free. Aaron Doyle also showed that his shooting is as good as ever as he pummelled 0-3 from open play on his return from injury.

The ever reliable Martin Melville chipped in with his customary double while veteran Kieran Walsh had one from play and one from a free. Chris Hogg (0-2) and Cormac Venney (0-1) rounded off the scoring master class.

Freddie O’Connor hit two superb angled scores for Bright, while Pearse McCarthy chipped over a free to give Marty Tumelty’s men a total of 0-3.

Dundrum ped down the gears in the second half and started to play their tried and trusted patient possession game. They managed to outscore an improved Bright by 0-7 to 0-5.

Kieran Walsh top scored with 0-3 while McComiskey added another two. John Hurley also popped up with one from the back while Paddy Cunningham at corner back took the accolade for score of the game as he hurtled down the right wing before glancing the ball over from a tight angle.

B. J. McMenamin coasted over three frees for the Ballynoe-based side while Nicky O’Connor and sub Conor Doyle added a point apiece.

This was another solid team effort from Dundrum. Eamon King looked a bit more steady in goals while the defence can be pleased as a unit with only letting Bright in for 0-4 from play over the course of the game. Kieran Walsh and Chris Hogg dominated midfield with Colum King being particularly adept at sweeping up break ball.

McComiskey was very economical with his shot selection on the wing while Martin Melville was as solid as ever on the ball when he got forward. Nicky O’Connor, Pearse McCarthy and Ryan Mageean battled gamely for Bright, but to no avail.
