Two-night display for Killyleagh GB company

Two-night display for Killyleagh GB company

10 April 2013

KILLYLEAGH Girls’ Brigade held their annual display over two nights this year.

The traditional display on March 23 was interrupted by a power cut due to the severe weather which battered the district, with girls, parents and friends returning to the Cooke Hall again last Friday night for part two.

The Cooke Hall was plunged into darkness on March 23 just as Company Captain, Mrs. Tracey Davies, received her 25 year officer’s brooch from her mother, Mrs. Heather Hunsdale.

But, due to excellent pre-planning on the night, the prizegiving was completed by candle and torch light, with the company choir giving an excellent rendition of Wonderful World.

Each girl received their prizes and badges for their hard work during the year and as they were all receiving Easter eggs they were only too glad to stay.

Last Friday night, the majority of girls and their family supporters were again in the Cooke Hall to watch the remainder of the display, this time with no power failures to disrupt proceedings.

As always, the youngest girls stole the show with their songs, poems and plays but the older girls excelled with their marching, dancing, acting and playing.

An excellent evening’s entertainment was rounded off with everyone receiving refreshments as a reward for coming to the display for a second time. Indeed so successful was the new format that the Killyleagh company is considering having the annual display in April and the prize giving in September next year.
