Trees planted at scheme

THREE hundred trees were planted at the Cedar Court supported housing scheme in Downpatrick on Monday.

Trinity Housing teamed up with the Woodland Trust for the initiative and were joined by representatives from the South Eastern Trust.

Trinity Housing said it was pleased to support the tree planting project designed to improve the local area and help increase native woodland cover.

It says Cedar Court will enjoy the wide range of benefits trees bring to both local communities and wildlife.

Trinity Housing chairman, Ian Kirkpatrick, said the Downpatrick project represents a “tangible example” of how organisations can work together for the benefit of the environment.

“Housing Associations should take the lead in setting aside areas of sites that can be utilised in this way,” he added.
