ST PATRICK’S Choral Society has scooped a nomination at this year’s Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) awards.

Naomi Smyth has been nominated for Best Female Singer following her role as Eva Peron in the society’s recent production of Evita.

The Portaferry woman said she was “astounded” to be nominated and congratulated her fellow nominees.

“Thank you so so much for everyone’s support and kind messages,” she said on Facebook. “I truly am speechless, which doesn’t happen very often. Roll on Killarney for many celebrations.”

The awards will be held in Killarney in June.

St Patrick’s Choral Society has previously won a number of AIMS awards, such as last year’s Best Supporting Actor award for Fergal White in the production of Sunset Boulevard. The group also won Best Technical Award for the same production.
