THREE local people have been presented with William Keown Trust personal achievement awards.
Crossgar’s Michaela Hollywood and Killyleagh duo Jack and Joe Brown were among 27 people honoured at the Trust’s awards ceremony held recently at the Seagoe Hotel in Portadown.
Michaela was presented with the Haldene Butler Memorial Cup by Trust President Kate Smith, who also presented Jack and Joe Brown from Killyleagh with the Lilliput Cup and Certificate of Merit respectively.
The local winners and their families were welcomed to the presentation ceremony by Trust chairman, Philip Beattie, who paid tribute to the organisation’s founder the late Bill Keown, from Dundrum, who passed away in March.
Mr Beattie said the awards ceremony was a “great legacy to Bill who was an inspiration to all to who knew him.”
The Trust chairman thanked those who had nominated people for the various award categories, those who conducted interviews and awards director, Mrs Mary McCracken. Mr Beattie thanked those who had provided sponsorship for events and various supermarkets who over the years had allowed the Trust to hold its flag day collections.
Trust Director, Mr David Hanna, who read the citation for each recipient as they were presented with their awards, also paid tribute to the organisation’s founder. He said Mr Keown had a “had a fantastic insight and determination, in spite of his adversity, for those who had to view life from a different angle.”
