Thousands expected at the Twelfth in Dundrum

10 July 2013

PEOPLE heading to Dundrum this Friday for the district’s Twelfth of July parade are being asked to bear in mind the various traffic arrangements that will be in place.

The Orange Order’s Castlewellan District is hosting the event which will feature 70 lodges and some 50 bands from the Lecale, Saintfield, Comber and Ballynahinch Districts.

The assembly field is located at the Old Belfast Road. The main parade is scheduled to move off at 12.15pm to make its way to the demonstration field at the Old Road via Main Street.

Following the platform proceedings, the parade is scheduled to leave the demonstration field around 4pm and proceed via Main Street to the Old Belfast Road where Orangemen and bandsmen will board buses for home.

Diversions for non-traffic parade this Friday will be via Clough and Castlewellan.

Demonstration car park ticket holders and members of the public are advised to turn off at Clough and follow the sign posted route via the Kilmegan Road. All official cars should proceed to the assembly field at the Old Belfast Road.

Disabled car park ticket holders will be accommodated with appropriate toilet provision at two locations along the parade route, in front of the Orange Hall, where there will be limited space, and at Down Council playing fields at the Old Road.

Parade organisers say members of the public should be aware that there will be limited car parking within Dundrum and are being encouraged to use car parking at the demonstration field to avoid traffic queues into the village. Toilet facilities, including disabled units, will be available along the parade route and at the assembly and demonstration fields.
