Thieves raid local businesses

30 January 2013

A NUMBER of business premises in the Rowallane area were targeted by thieves last weekend.

A pharmacy in Crossgar and two butchery businesses in Saintfield were targeted either late last Thursday night or during the early hours of the following morning.

During the same period, a business in Carryduff was broken into.

Councillor Terry Andrews said the repair bill the various business owners have been left with “could not come at a more inopportune moment,” given the continuing economic crisis.

A front window at the Crossgar pharmacy was smashed during a break-in at the Killyleagh Street premises, while widows at the two butchery businesses in Saintfield were also smashed.

Councillor Andrews said his thoughts are with the owners of the various businesses targeted and hopes the incidents won’t be repeated.

“Businesses are finding the going tough enough at the moment without

having to contend with repairs to their damaged premises caused by thieves,” he said.

“Incidents like these are uncalled for. They cause upset and distress and I would appeal to anyone who can assist police with their enquiries to contact them. We need to eradicate this kind of behaviour from society.”
