Teen sent to YOC after trying to remove ATM

A DOWNPATRICK teenager who tried to steal a cash machine from outside a local supermarket, has been sent to a Young Offenders’ Centre for 11 months.

Nineteen year-old Christopher Lynch tried to steal the ATM machine and its contents from the front of the Tesco store in Newcastle on March 14, Downpatrick Court was told this week.

Lynch, of Stream Street, admitted criminal damage and attempted theft and received an eight month custodial sentence. A previously imposed three month suspended sentence was also activated which must be served consecutively to the eight months.

The court heard Lynch was seen attacking the ATM at around 10.30pm but eventually walked away without getting

at the contents. Pieces of the ATM was found lying on the ground.

CCTV footage from the store showed a male walking away from the scene around 10.22pm. Footprint impressions taken from the area were also used to connect Lynch to the crime, the prosecutor said.
