Teconnaught are torn asunder by Drumgath

12 October 2016

DRUMGATH made no mistake second time around when they obliterated a Teconnaught team who ultimately missed the boat.

Ronan Sexton had his charges much more focussed and they started in a whirlwind fashion with Packie Downey registering after 19 seconds.

Ryan McCusker and Colm Maginn added to this with the latter palming to the Teconnaught net on nine minutes.

A second Drumgath goal from Jack Lynch one minute later added to the East Down side’s woes.

Disaster then struck for Teconnaught with captain David Kelly receiving a bad injury and having to be replaced by Cormac Carville.

Cathal Tumilty’s 26th minute strike put Drumgath ten up and the  diminutive forward added another with Ryan Hillen also getting in on the act.

In the ten minutes of first half injury time Packie Downey swooped for Drumgath’s third goal.

Conor Greene did manage to open Teconnaught’s account before Drumgath plundered another one on the whistle to leave them 3-7 to 0-1 clear at the break.

Mark Connolly, who saved Drumgath’s skin in the original game, found the net at the start of the second half and Teconnaught were now in serious trouble.

By the 42nd minute Drumgath were leading 4-9 to 0-2 and in complete control of the game.

Packie Downey, Jack Lynch and Matthew McConville took some good scores as the scoreboard kept ticking over.

Points were exchanged on a few more occasions as Drumgath coasted home to a brilliant 23 point success.

Teconnaught will have felt that they left this championship behind them in the original fixture.

Drumgath were a lot more concentrated and were wholly deserving of their landslide win which secured them their first ever JFC crown.
