Teacher is off to Uganda

A LOCAL school teacher in in Uganda this week to witness the work of aid agency Trocaire.

Louise O’Prey has travelled to the third world country with a group of teachers from across the area who are interested in seeing how money raised for the charity is spent on the ground.

She said the trip was the opportunity of a lifetime and said she was looking forward to seeing Trocaire’s work.

“Our school raises a lot of money for Trocaire every year and I cannot wait to see how that money is spent on the ground,” she said.

“We will be visiting Trocaire’s projects, meeting Trocaire’s partner organ-isations and, most importantly, speaking to the ordinary people on the ground.

“Uganda is an incredibly poor country and I will have the chance to hear how people are coping with the challenges and how our money has helped support them.

“When I return, I will be sharing my experiences with the staff and students in my school, so that my school community can see how their efforts have helped others in Uganda.”

Kevin O’Donnelly, who is Trocaire’s assistant regional manager in Northern Ireland, will be leading the trip.

He said it was important for Trocaire to be able to tell people how the money they donate is being put to good use.

“We are currently in the middle of the Trocaire Lenten campaign, which this year focuses on the global water crisis and I have no doubt that we will see how this crisis is affecting ordinary people in Uganda,” he said.
