ARDGLASS may have triumphed over Downpatrick in the Bobby Dalzell Cup final on Boxing Day, but a local charity has emerged as the real winner.

A collection at the Newcastle League’s annual Christmas showdown at Drumaness netted £388.86 for Suicide Down to Zero.

Charity representative Darran McQuoid said he was delighted with the total raised and thanked the league for allowing the collection to take place.

“This is a tidy sum for a charity such as ours and we will use it in our mission to bring suicide down to zero,” he said.

The charity would like to thank the league, match hosts Drumaness Mills, the players, families and supporters for their generosity.

They would also like to thank the staff and patrons of Drumaness Mills Social Club who added to the total.
