Students raise the bar to lift a million for Lenten appeal

27 March 2013

ST Patrick’s Grammar School students have lifted a million pounds in aid of school’s Lenten Appeal.

The novel fundraising mission involved lifting weights with a group of senior students setting themselves the target of lifting 1,000,000 pounds for charity.

Led by event organiser and deputy head boy Ryan Murdock, the group managed to lift even more than this, however, with 1,551,683 pounds managed in four hours.

The money raised in sponsorship, when combined with the other fundraising initiatives will be used to help build a school for the Baka people of Cameroon.

Throughout the season of Lent students in the school have been actively raising money through sponsored events, cake sales, raffles and competitions.

The fundraising activities culminated yesterday afternoon with light-hearted entertainment in the form of a ‘Stars in their Eyes’ performance from students and staff.
