Strangford Ferry will come alive to the sound of music

12 November 2014

VISITORS to Strangford Lough will be able to enjoy a unique waterborne festive experience next month.

Northern Ireland’s first ever carol ship will take to the water on the evening of December 12 and 13, promising a magical experience as choirs and musicians perform on board the Strangford ferry to herald the Christmas season.

Organised by Portaferry and Strangford Trust as part of a series of monthly events designed to raise awareness of the incredible maritime history of the area, the carol ship will sail for two nights only.

There will be stalls, food and drink to sample and the opportunity to listen onshore in Portaferry and Strangford as Christmas music rings out across the lough.

The idea has been taken from the carol ship ‘Parade of Lights’ event, which began over 50 years ago with one boat in Vancouver, Canada.

Northern Ireland’s first ever event of its kind promises to be fun for all the family.

Visitors can watch from onshore as the Strangford ferry, decorated with Christmas lights, sails back and forth from 6pm-9.30pm.

There will also be refreshments and special offers at local restaurants alongside lots of exciting activities for the children while you listen to the tranquil music. There will be market stalls, face-painting and story-telling.

The event is free and ferries will sail every 15 minutes.
