Spa ladies bring silverware to club

THE lady golfers of Spa Golf Club are celebrating winning the Winter Alliance Trophy for the second year running.

Victory was assured in the final round of the competition, hosted by Royal County Down Ladies GC, when they defeated nearest rivals Mahee Island by a single point.

Five local clubs — Spa, St Patrick’s Downpatrick, Ardglass, Mahee Island and RCD Ladies — play for the trophy throughout the winter months.

Spa lady captain Vivienne Abernethy said she was “proud and delighted” to bring the trophy back to Spa and congratulated team captain Veronica McCormick and all the ladies of her club who had turned out to play often in the most inclement weather conditions.

“This is the first trophy of 2016 and I’m honoured to be bringing it home to Spa,” she said.
