Six-goal salvo puts Castlewellan well on target in debut

9 September 2015

CASTLEWELLAN’S Polish connection inspired an emphatic Amateur League debut victory at a sun-kissed Bann Road on Saturday.

Brothers Karol and Kamil Jarosinski both got on the score sheet as an experimental Castlewellan lay down their marker for the season ahead and proved that the team that wins this division will have to better them.

The new pitch, with dug-outs and perimeter fencing at Bann Road, was an absolute picture for this opener and despite being without at least 13 first team players to choose from, Castlewellan started like a runaway train with the Jarosinski boys at the heart of every positive move.

The game was barely 10 minutes old when Karol smacked a free kick against the upright and six minutes later he left his marker for dead out on the left flank before squaring the ball into the path of Eddie Murray, but he was unable to get a touch at the back post.

Castlewellan were building up a nice head of steam with Donagh Steele driving them forward and they finally made the breakthrough in the 25th minute when Kamil Jarosinski produced a clinical finish after Karol had created the opening on the edge of the box.

It was 2-0 11 minutes later when a long throw from the impressive Lee Ward was headed home by the dangerous Murray, a move that has given Castlewellan so many goals over the past 40 years.

Teams know what’s coming when they concede a throw or free kick anywhere within distance, but they are just not able to defend their goal when the ball is launched in.

Karol Jarosinski then made it 3-0 just before the break when he ghosted past two defenders before driving the ball into the bottom corner past a helpless Deaglan McComb.

Six minutes after the break Steele broke through the Suffolk ranks at the back and laid the ball across the face of the goal, but there was nobody at home and the chance was wasted.

With 56 minutes gone Suffolk came alive when Curtis Hanna headed in at the back post after Aidy Kelly was caught out of position at left back, game on. Suffolk’s comeback never materialised, though, as Castlewellan went straight back on the attack and with 60 minutes gone Suffolk conceded a throw deep in their own territory.

Yes, you guessed it. Another long throw from Ward was met by the towering Murray and his header nestled in the back of the net before McComb could move a muscle.

Castlewellan continued to boss things with every single player putting in good shifts and with 72 minutes gone teenager Conor Magorrian made it 5-1 when  he beat McComb all ends up with an unerring shot from well outside the box out after good approach play from the busy Sean Fitzsimons.

Not to be outdone, Thomas Rice, another student form the Town’s academy, chanced his arm from distance and was rewarded when the ball struck the upright and flew into the net.

Castlewellan will not get things as easy this Saturday when they face Ballynagross in Killyleagh, but in Shane McCann, Conal Burns and Nial Toner they have the defenders to make life difficult for Alan Craig’s outfit.
