Shoebox support for the Road of Hope

Shoebox support for the Road of Hope

9 November 2016

THE Road of Hope annual Christmas shoebox appeal is accepting collections in Downpatrick until Friday evening.

The Northern Ireland-based charity brings Christmas cheer to thousands of disadvantaged people in Eastern Europe. Last year they donated 11,000 gift filled shoeboxes to young and old who wouldn’t normally receive any gifts.

Toiletries, stationery, hats, gloves, scarves, underwear, hair accessories, games, cuddly toys and sweets are among the suggested items for people to donate.

Suitable items for the elderly include thermal wear, sewing kits, shaving kits, playing cards hand lotion and candles.

The charity has extended thanks to local businesses, clubs and schools who have donated so far, including St Patrick’s Primary School, Legamaddy, Our Lady and St Patrick Primary School, Downpatrick, St Brigid’s Primary School, Downpatrick and Downpatrick Knit and Natter.

Shoebox donations can be made to local co-ordinator Francis Brown at 4 Lisoid Road, Rossglass until Friday evening. Telephone 07753 635450. More information about the charity is also available at www.roadofhope.org.uk
