Shea hits century in star showing

THE quarter-final draw for the BMF Downpatrick and District League snooker individuals has been made following an action-packed second round.

Shea Valentine knocked in an impressive 103-break on his route to the quarter-finals, which is a personal highest break for him.

Wins over Conor Doran and Sean Burns have seen him progress to Monday night’s quarter-finals.

Team-mate Conor Kelly, who despatched the Drumaness legend Darren Dornan, also progressed to the quarter-finals where he will meet Shea for a place in the semi-finals.

Darren Oldroyd and Sean Carvill complete the top half of the draw. Both played some great snooker to get this far, but with Darren conceding 35 points on handicap he will need to be in exceptional form to get one over Sean for a semi-final spot.

In the bottom half of the draw, big hitter Eamon Ferris takes on Mark Galbraith.

With Eamon also conceding points on handicap this one could also be a hard one to call. If Mark can keep Eamon out of the balls he may have a great chance of overcoming the tournament favourite.

Also on the bottom half of the draw, Mark Boyd progressed to the quarter-finals with wins over Gerard McCaffrey and James Marmion.

Mark is a really experienced player and will prove hard to beat on his own tables.

He will face in the last eight Gerard Travers, who came through three very tough matches but is showing some signs of form. Travers knocked in breaks of 52, 75 and 97 to progress to the quarter-finals to face Mark in a match that will be difficult to call.
