2 July 2014

A SAINTFIELD nurse has scooped a major award.

Juanita Cunningham, a cardiac liaison nurse at the Belfast Health Trust, has been presented with the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) prestigious “co-ordinated/integrated care” award for her vital work supporting people with debilitating heart conditions in Northern Ireland.

Juanita was recently presented with the award at the British Cardiovascular Society conference in Manchester in June. The Saintfield nurse was one of six major award winners who have shown particular excellence in cardiovascular care over the past year from across the UK and said she was delighted to accept the award on behalf of her entire team.

She added: “Thank you to the BHF for the recognition it gives to our efforts in establishing and maintaining an excellent cardiac rehab service in an area of need.”

BHF chief executive, Simon Gillespie, said the efforts that healthcare professionals make for their patients are “truly inspirational.” He said the BHF award recognises Juanita as a “shining example of professional leadership and care.”

Mr. Gillespie added: “The BHF wants to develop its support for the thousands of practitioners caring for the seven million people in the UK who are experiencing the misery and pain of cardiovascular disease. “Joining the new BHF Alliance is the perfect way for healthcare practitioners to network and develop their skills and knowledge for the continuing benefit of those affected by cardiovascular disease.”
