Saintfield centre family-friendly open day event

29 June 2022

THE Saintfield Community Centre hosted an open day last Saturday.

The event at the Belfast Road complex was organised by the town’s Development Association and supported by Phoenix Natural Gas via its new community fund.

Last Saturday’s family-friendly fun day provided residents with the opportunity to meet with friends old and new with an afternoon of free entertainment, while also learning more about the centre and the range of activities and classes that are available.

Development Association member, David Greer, said that after a challenging two years for many in the area, the organisation was delighted to host the family fun day that showcased the centre, its facilities and the classes on offer to the wider community.

He described the event as a “great day of entertainment and fun” and thanked all the volunteers involved in planning for it, reserving special thanks for the support provided by Phoenix.

Gillian Orr, head of corporate affairs with the gas company, said helping to create thriving and connected communities has been a central theme of the businesses approach over the past 25 years.

“We are delighted that the Saintfield Development Association and wider community will be the first to benefit from our newly launched community fund,” she continued.

“Designed to help reduce social isolation and encourage inclusion, the Saintfield Community Centre open day was a fantastic fit with the Phoenix Community Fund.”

Open now, the Phoenix Community Fund welcomes applications from community groups and organisations big and small across the Phoenix Natural Gas licence area that are working to reduce social isolation, remove barriers to inclusion and promote equality in their area.
