Saintfield PSNI base closure passed

Saintfield PSNI base closure passed

9 May 2012

THE Policing Board has officially signed off on plans to close Saintfield police station.

Although already considered closed, they did the same for Crossgar, Killyleagh and Comber.

The 2011 Estates Strategy recommended the disposal of 21 police stations across Northern Ireland following a recent public consultation process.

Local objections on the proposals centred on the large area of County Down that would be left without a police station, and Ballynahinch, which had been earmarked for closure, has received a reprieve.

Policing Board chairman, Brian Rea, said: “It is important that these disposals are viewed in the context of a police estate that fits modern policing requirements and ensures value for money.

“The 2011 Estates Strategy sets out a detailed plan for achieving this and investing in buildings that support the needs of officers working in communities.”
