Resort in final 10 for Best Places accolade

NEWCASTLE and the Mournes have been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) in Northern Ireland has revealed the picturesque resort and stunning mountain range are finalists in the Province’s best places competition, the winner of which will be announced in November.

The competition aims to celebrate some of Northern Ireland’s “most attractive and inspiring places” as well as the role planners have played in protecting or shaping them for communities.

Joining Newcastle and the Mournes in the top ten list of finalists are some of Northern Ireland’s most iconic locations including the Giants’s Causeway, Causeway Coast and Glens, Rathlin Island and Lough Erne.

The top ten is completed by Antrim’s historic town centre, Merville Garden village which is also in Antrim, Armagh City’s historic town centre and cathedrals, Belfast’s Connswater Community Greenway and Cathedral Quarter, Derry’s Walled City, Guildhall, Peace Bridge and former Ebrington barracks.
