THE legendary Red Arrows will be flying in the skies above Newcastle again this summer.
Down Council has announced the RAF display team will be taking part in the Festival of Flight on Saturday, August 10 — the third time the Red Arrows have taken part in the event.
Tens of thousands of people watched the stunning aerobatics of the Red Arrows when they performed in 2010 and 2011 and the council is expecting a similar turn out this summer.
Also returning again will be the Eurofighter, the Typhoon, which was so popular at last year’s event.
Flight Director Jeff Salter revealed there will be three further jet displays which will make the 2013 event the fastest and most exciting yet with five of the most iconic jet aircraft dating back to the 1950’s.
“This will be the largest collection of jets in one display that Northern Ireland has seen in a dozen years,” he said.
The Festival of Flight has emerged as one of Northern Ireland’s major festivals which draws huge crowds. The spectacular air displays are the major event alongside numerous exhibitions, music, street entertainment, vintage vehicles and an open air concert.
