Probus club celebrates 25th anniversary

27 September 2017

BALLYNAHINCH Men’s Probus Club celebrated its 25th anniversary at a lunch in the Millbrook Lodge Hotel last week.

PROBUS is an acronym for Professional and Business and clubs welcome members from those backgrounds, and are cross-community.

Founded in 1992, the Ballynahinch Club has grown in strength over the years and membership now stands at 37. The members meet most weeks for friendship, talks from invited speakers, and visits to places of interest.

Their meeting place is the Millbrook Lodge Hotel, and they are grateful to the management there for making them very welcome. Each June they have an end of season mystery tour and this year went to Oxford Island Discovery Centre, Brownlow House, and Armagh Planetarium.

Next week they are going to a private cinema at Comber to see the latest James Bond film.

On Wednesday local club President, Ronnie McCracken, received anniversary congratulations from two welcome visitors — Paul Dougan, President of Lisburn Rotary Club, and Carol Wazir, President of Ballynahinch Ladies’ Probus.

It was Paul’s Lisburn club which originally sponsored Ballynahinch Probus back in 1992. During Wednesday’s dinner he presented 25-year badges to founder members William Douglas, Eric Ivimey, and Jim Harte, who also cut a special anniversary cake.
