Power cost appeal to association

Power cost appeal to association

19 December 2012

A HOUSING Association has been asked to reduce the cost of electricity its tenants at the Riverside Meadows development in Ballynahinch are paying.

Down District UKIP representative Alan Lewis is working with Oaklee Housing officials to reduce the cost per unit people are paying for their power. He said Riverside Meadows tenants are paying 27p per unit, while private customers pay 14p per unit.

“I have met with Oaklee officials to discuss the issue as there are serious concerns about the price tenants are paying for electricity to heat their homes,” explained Mr. Lewis.

“The cost is placing tenants in fuel poverty and leaving them in financial difficulty.”

The UKIP official is also seeking a meeting with electricity supplier PowerNI to ascertain why the charge for tenants at the Ballynahinch development are so high.

He added: “I am pleased Oaklee Housing is committed to changing the heating supply for tenants at Riverside Meadows which will hopefully reduce electric costs. Residents are understandably angry at the price they are currently having to pay.”
