Portaferry lifeboat rescues men after boat breaks down

31 July 2013

PORTAFERRY lifeboat went to the aid of two men who got into difficulty in Strangford Lough on Wednesday evening of last week.

The two men were in a five metre motor boat which had lost power and was drifting in the area known as the Strangford Narrows, a stretch of fast moving water which runs between Portaferry and Strangford and experiences extremely fast tidal flows.

The lifeboat crew arrived to help the two men within minutes of the alarm being raised. A line was attached to the broken down boat which was towed the short distance to Strangford.
