Police seeking a motive for Dundrum estate shooting

28 August 2013

POLICE are investigating a shooting incident in Dundrum.

A shot was fired through a front door of a house in Church Avenue in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Two men were in the house at the time but nobody was injured.

Police said they received a report of the incident shortly before 2am.

Local councillor Patrick Clarke said: “I am shocked that this shooting took place in a quiet residential area. The people responsible obviously have no regards for the consequences of their actions.

“Somebody could have been seriously injured or worse. There is no place for this sort of violence on our streets. The public must help the police catch whoever is responsible.”

Councillor Carmel O’Boyle also asked anyone with information about the incident to contact police.

Detectives want anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, or who has any information about the incident, to contact them at Downpatrick CID on 0845 600 8000. To provide information anonymously contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
