Police make appeal after Ballynahinch centre assault

29 August 2012

AN assault in the High Street area of Ballynahinch on Friday afternoon is being investigated by police.

Shortly before 4pm a 57 year-old man was approached by two male youths, one of whom pushed the other into him. The youth then became aggressive to him and as he walked off the man was punched in the back.

The youth followed him to a local newsagent and continued shouting abuse and threatening him.

He is described as being between 17 and 19 years-old, five feet 10 inches tall to six feet tall, of medium, athletic build, with very dark or tanned skin and wearing a blue anorak.

Due to the time of day it is believed a large number of people would have been in the area and possibly witnessed the assault and further abuse.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them at Ballynahinch on 0845 600 8000.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
