LISTOODER and District Ploughing Society has raised £5,000 for the Friends of the Cancer Centre.

The Society’s 127th annual show was held in Ardglass last Saturday to raise money for the charity which provided support for Society member, Andrew

Gill, during his treatment for leukaemia.

Competitors and visitors travelled from across Ireland to support the event and the Society’s chairman, Martin Gill, was delighted with its success.

Mr Gill, who is Andrew’s grandfather, paid tribute to everyone involved, describing Saturday’s ploughing match as a “truly fantastic day.”

He thanked Mr Colm Cultra for the use of his land for the event and to Mr Danny Leneghan and his family for helping host the ploughing match.

“Thanks to everyone who made a contribution to our match,” said Mr Gill. “Thanks to competitors, other ploughing societies, Young Farmers’ Clubs, local businesses and individuals who donated prizes and made donations.”

Mr Gill also thanked Massey’s of Saintfield for providing the catering, the PSNI, competition judges, Friends of the Cancer Centre staff and the Society’s hard-working committee.

He added: “We know the money raised will go towards providing much-needed support to cancer patients and their families.”
