Paul Clark gives talk about TV war shows

12 November 2014

UTV presenter Paul Clark visited Killyleagh as part of the Remembrance programme organised by the Killyleagh Remembers the Great War project.

During his talk in the Cooke Hall on Friday night, the broadcaster talked of his role in producing and presenting a number of documentaries examining the role of Irish soldiers during The Great War.

He also spoke of his personal journey to understand the sacrifice of the Irish soldiers in the First World War and produced the medals of his great-uncle, Donald Clark, a member of the Young Citizens Volunteers, who joined the 14th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles on the outbreak of war in 1914.

There are two remaining events in the Heritage Lottery Fund-supported Killyleagh Remembers the Great War project — the publication early next year of a book detailing the stories of the soldiers from Killyleagh and Shrigley who served and a special schools event in which local schoolchildren have been asked to fill in a Killyleagh War scrapbook.
