THE work of a Saintfield nurse has been recognised by the judges of a major healthcare award.

Patricia McMullan is celebrating after Nazareth House Nursing Home, where she has worked for almost 17 years, scooped the top award at the prestigious Randox Healthcare Awards in the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel. 

Patricia, who has nursed the elderly since the start of her career over 40 years ago, leads the nursing team in the 48-bed nursing unit at the home in Belfast which has been named Best Care Home of 2015. 

She said she was thrilled with the recognition, which she described as a “real tribute to all the nurses and carers.”

She said staff worked tirelessly to ensure that residents spend the final years of their lives living comfortably, securely and with dignity. 

“It is my privilege to lead such a talented and selfless team,” she said.

“We concentrate on holistic care of our residents, focusing on their individual spiritual, physical and psychological care.

Mrs McMullan said the most recent award was the “icing on the cake” after Nazareth House 

received a number of other awards including best kept healthcare facility.
