PSNI urged to be vigilant on estates

POLICE have been urged to continue to keep a close eye on the Flying Horse and Model Farm housing estates in Downpatrick.

Trouble flared at the estates over recent months and while things have quietened considerably, councillor Colin McGrath said there have been a number of isolated incidents.

He said several cars have been damaged recently, with the latest incident occurring last weekend when the window of a vehicle passing the Ballymote Park area was smashed.

Councillor McGrath said police have carried out a lot of good work at both estates in a bid to quell trouble through increased foot patrols and the deployment of video cameras at weekends. He said the PSNI has also been working alongside statutory agencies to address the anti-social behaviour issue.

“This good work must continue as the anti-social behaviour hasn’t completely ceased,” he continued. “I would appeal to those involved to stop and think of the impact of their actions which are frightening people, causing damage to vehicles and impacting people’s businesses too,” he said.

The councillor added: “This anti-social behaviour activity isn’t without its impact across the community and must cease. I have written to the PSNI asking for continued patrols and investigations in the area and hope these will take place.”
