O’Connor triumphs in league individuals

DONAL O’Connor, from English’s, was crowned Down District Skittles League individuals champion yet again on Saturday in Carman’s when a total of 32 players took part.

Fantastic skittles were played in all games with some outstanding scores along the way. Michael Kelly finished in a 7 skittler to go through to the quarter-finals and this was just one of the highlights of a great afternoon’s entertainment.

Semi-finalists were: Donal O’Connor, who beat Liam Sharvin in a thrilling match with Liam (11) taking the first game.

Donal (11) took the next to draw level before Liam came back with an 8 skittles, to once again take the lead, but Donal took the next two games, both in 9 skittles, to secure his place in the final.

Gerard Rogan played John Kearney in the other semi-final before eventually beating him 3-2. Gerard took the first two games in 11 and 12 skittles, but John pulled the next two back in 10 and 9 skittles. Gerard fought back hard and won the 5th game in just 8 skittles to make sure he got in to the final.

 

The final started well for Gerard who took the first game in 12 skittles, but Donal came back and won the next two games in 10 and 9 skittles. Gerard took the 4th game in 8 skittles, but it was Donal who came back and took the next two games in 8 and 9 skittles to secure the individual crown in a great final match.
