OWENBEG A.................................10
ARDGLASS......................................0
WITH Pat Mulholland unavailable, Peter Deeny had another opportunity to get match-fit, and his three wins contributed to a comfortable victory for Owenbeg A.
Hugh Scott got the hosts off to a good start with a straight game win over Paddy Cahir, before Deeny made it two with a similar victory against Barry Montgomery and Sancton Burns, who gets better with every game he plays, made it a trio when beating Brandy McEvoy.
It was a similar picture in the remainder of matches, with Ardglass making their opponents work for their wins, but in the end, were unable to put a score on the card against experienced opponents.
BANBRIDGE A................................6
OWENBEG B...................................4
DESPITE the result, Owenbeg B went home pleased with their performance and perhaps thinking it was a match they could have got something from, with a number of close games on the card.
Brian Morrow continued his unbeaten run in the first match of the evening, against Donald Campbell, winning by a margin of just five points after four closely matched games.
Dan McEvoy was equally in good form, coming from two games down to win in five against Gary Smith, while Aleyah Peniero made it 2-1 with victory over Ciaran Fitzpatrick.
Banbridge A increased their lead to 3-1, winning the doubles match, before Morrow made it four with his win over McEvoy.
After the corvine progressed to 4-3, Brian Morrow gave Banbridge some breathing room, overcoming the challenge of Fitzpatrick, and Campbell got his second win of the night against Gary Smith.
Peniero’s 3-0 victory over McEvoy ensured the points for Banbridge in a very entertaining match.
ST JOHN’S B...................................9
BANBRIDGE B................................1
LEAGUE leaders St John’s B gave Tom Garvey his debut, with Vincey Poland sitting this one out, but the result was never in doubt.
Garvey got the home side off to a winning start, beating Tom Neilly 3-1, and John Magee continued his excellent run of form with and 3-0 success over Lorraine Smith, before Gary Smith pulled one back against Brendan McGrillen.
Although Banbridge B continued to put respectable scores on the card, St John’s won the remainder of matches.
STRANGFORD B.............................3
OWENBEG B...................................7
OWENBEG B, playing their second match of the week, got off to a good start against Strangford B, with Dan and Manus McEvoy winning both their matches in five games, against Rory McSwiggan and Peter Madine.
Ciaran Fitzpatrick made it three for Owenbeg, hitting Michael Deeny with a 3-0 whitewash, before the McEvoy’s stretched the lead in the doubles.
Manus Mcnvoy’s 3-0 victory over Deeny left Strangford with the impossible task of getting something from this match, but to their credit, they never gave up.
Peter Madine put his team’s first win on the card, securing a four-game victory against Fitzpatrick, and Deeny made Dan McEvoy work for his four-game victory, which secured the points for Owenbeg.
Madine and McSwiggan posted another two wins for Strangford thinking, leaving question marks around what the result could have been if they had won the three close, five-game matches.
