AFTER the glitz and ceremony of the Oscar party scene, his return to Killough was subdued.

After winning an Oscar for his short film The Shore, which was filmed exclusively in Killough

and Coney Island, director

Terry George told the world he was excited about bringing his trophy to The Anchor bar where one of the main scenes in the film was shot.

He made his promised return to the pub quietly last week, arriving at the doors of The Anchor shortly before closing time on Tuesday.

Placing his Oscar statuette on the bar, he enjoyed a casual drink with the few locals who happened to be there.

The next day, he was back on the publicity circuit with a special reception at Stormont to celebrate his success.

During this reception, the First and Deputy First Ministers enjoyed a private viewing of the movie before getting a chance to hold the world famous trophy.

First Minister Peter Robinson described Terry and his daughter Oorlagh, who produced the film, as “fantastic.”

“We always had expectations that an Oscar would come Northern Ireland’s way with our building up of the creative industries,” he said.

“But I don’t think any of us could have expected it to come so soon, when you see the talent that we have.
