A KIRCUBBIN woman has helped Mount Stewart be named one of the UK’s most special places. Niky McGrattan submitted a winning photo to a National Trust social media ‘Special Places’ campaign searching for the best locations across the UK.
After coming top of the 700 images submitted, Niky explained why she found Mount Stewart so special.
“Mount Stewart is just ten minute’s drive from our house so we go often, and every time without fail we see something new,” she said. “We might climb rocks or trees, jump over a stream or follow a family of ducks. The views are breathtaking and we always go home happy.
“I am absolutely thrilled to win this competition, especially as there were so many amazing images of places right across the UK. I really didn’t expect mine to be chosen as the winning image.”
Niky’s prize includes a National Trust holiday cottage family break and a full day with a professional photographer so she can pick up tips on how to get the most from her snaps.
Offering his congratulations, Jon Kerr, Mount Stewart Property Manager, said: “This campaign aimed to celebrate the many special places that exist right across the UK, so we are delighted that Mount Stewart came out top. The gardens here are remarkable in offering something for everyone, from experienced gardeners to armchair enthusiasts, and from walkers to amblers.
“Children love discovering the carved creatures, feeding the swans, and charging through the woods. Whether you’re seven or seventy Mount Stewart will reward you with many wonderful days out.”
The National Trust is keeping the Facebook campaign running so people can continue to share images of the places they love.
