Niall in 51-year acts of kindness

A NEWCASTLE man is spreading kindness with a challenge which will last over five decades.

Twenty-four-year-old Niall Donnan is on an 18,627 day – or 51-year – mission to perform at least one random act of kindness for a stranger every single day until he turns 75.

Coming up with the idea on his birthday on September 25, Niall set up a GoFundMe page to support his aim, which has so far raised £110 of a £3,500 goal.

He says “100% of donations” will be used for kind acts, from offering free meals to strangers, to giving flowers to the elderly.

He is also documenting his journey on his Tiktok account, @thatkindnessguyy, where he has attracted over 5,000 followers.

And Niall hopes his actions will inspire others to see the good in the world, which he didn’t always see personally.

After going through a tough period where he felt like the world was “a dark place”, Niall started to build his life again, and then “things kept getting better”.

He was also inspired by his uncle, who showed kindness despite going through difficult times.

“Even when he was struggling, he would randomly bring me something or do something nice for someone else,” he said.

Niall would like for his mission to grow into something bigger.

“I work a normal job and have bills to pay but, eventually, I’d love this to grow so I can do even bigger acts, like handing someone an envelope with £1,000 and walking away without saying a word.”

The Newcastle man is no stranger to charitable acts, having raised over £2,500 for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland earlier this year by taking part in a ‘101 Mountain Peaks in 100 Days’ challenge.

Discussing what keeps him motivated, Niall said it was “the desire to prove that kindness still exists”.

He added: “I just want to push out as much good as I can and remind people that humans are good, that the world is a good place.”

Niall also founded a weekly walking group in his hometown of Newcastle five months ago.
