Newlyweds get a helping hand after they win give-away draw

A NEWLY married couple are celebrating a lucky windfall shortly after their big day.

Orla and Donal O’Reilly, from Downpatrick, got married in June — but little did they realise that the band which played the music at their reception would soon be offering a refund.

Mothers Little Helpers ran a competition in which they placed their wedding clients from almost two years ago into a draw to win their money back — and Orla and Donal’s names were pulled from the hat.

Shane Forsythe, from the Down-based rock and pop band, said there were many bills to be paid in any wedding and they thought it would be a fun way to give one of their couples a boost.

“We thought it would be a nice way of giving something back,” he said. “We just wanted to do something nice. This is probably the biggest day of their lives.”

Shane said it was a “pleasure” to hand over the cash in their first ‘Wedding Day Give-Away’ draw.

“We’re sure it will prove to be very useful to this lovely couple,” he added.

Orla, a nursery school teacher, married civil servant Donal in June at the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan before honeymooning in Bali.

She said she was surprised to receive the good news in a phone call from Shane.

“I never win anything, so it is lovely,” she said. “We have just moved house.

“You are paying for quality with a band such as Mothers Little Helpers and Shane was so nice throughout it all.”
