Newcastle to host popular Halloween Hallowtides event

10 October 2018

DETAILS of this year’s ‘spooktacular’ Hallowtides festival in Newcastle have been announced.

The hugely popular festival takes place on Wednesday, October 31, with hundreds of people expected to make their way to the resort for the family event organised by Newry, Mourne and Down Council.

The district’s first citizen, Mark Murnin said the local authority was encouraging people to embrace the Halloween spirit and participate in what the event has to offer, including all parents and children dressing up for the annual fancy dress competition.

“The pinnacle of the event is no doubt the show stopping fireworks display which makes the skies come alive.” he said, confirming the pyrotechnics will be launched from the beach at South Promenade.

“Events play an important role within the council’s tourism strategy and the numbers we see flocking to Newcastle is testament to the community and local authority working together to ensure their success and bring economic benefits to the area.”

Cllr Murnin also commended local businesses for their hard work in ensuring the commercial and community success of Hallowtides, singling out the work of Newcastle Chamber of Commerce which has taken the lead organising this impressive event.

Everyone attending the event will be able to take part in the fancy dress competition and listen to Q Radio’s Stephen and Cate who will be entertaining the crowds with great music and

giveaways from the festival stage.

The float parade will depart from the Slieve Donard Resort and Spa Hotel at 7pm and the event will finish with a spectacular fireworks display on the beach at 7.45pm.

This year’s floats feature a range of participants from the local area, including schools, pipe bands, community groups and clubs, all eager to win the great prizes on offer.
