Newcastle estate puts on fun day for local children

YOUNG people from Newcastle’s Burrendale estate enjoyed a recent action packed day filled with fun and activities.

They were organised by the Murlough Community Association with the help of community volunteers. The event was also supported by a number of other groups including The Kairos Centre, County Down Rural Community Network, Active Community Coaches, Sport NI and the Policing and Community Safety Partnership.

Murlough Community Association vice-chairman Shane McClelland said it was great to see so many young people come together for a community celebration. He also thanked parents who joined in the activities.

“The event was made possible by the support we have received and I’d like to thank O’Hare’s Lounge Bar, The Bon Bon, Shimna Taxis and Mahon’s Bar, while Flat Broke kept us entertained throughout the day,” he said.

The Murlough group’s treasurer, Sr. Teresa Clancy, expressed her thanks to The Kairos Centre for providing the barbecue and doing all the cooking.

She added: “The Murlough Community Association is especially grateful to our vice-chairman and youth leader Shane who organised the day and ensured the children returned to school with happy memories, in spite of the very wet summer.”
