Newcastle brothers stole red diesel from home

TWO Newcastle men who stole red diesel from Aughlisnafin woman’s home have appeared in court.

Brothers Ryan Eric William Flynn (29), of Main Street, and Gareth Flynn (24), of Causeway Road, both admitted stealing three drums of the fuel, worth £80, from the house on May 15.

District Judge Mr Greg McCourt was told that at around 10pm the PSNI received a report that two men had been seen climbing over a fence of a house along the Aughlisnafin Road.

When police arrived in the area, they found the pair walking along the road only a short distance away.

The men said they were only out for a walk but witnesses were able to identify them by their clothing. The diesel was recovered and returned to the owner.

“On a whim, a stupid, stupid whim, they decided to take the diesel,” their solicitor said, adding that this was an “opportunistic” crime.

Due to what Mr McCourt described as Ryan Flynn’s “serious record,” the 29-year-

old was sentenced to six months in jail,

which was suspended for three years, while Gareth Flynn was fined £350 as he had a clear record.
