Music double act in Newcastle over weekend

15 July 2015

MUSIC lovers have another two reasons to visit Newcastle weekend, with the Brigid O’Neill band with special guests on Friday and The Diamond Experience tribute to Neil Diamond on Saturday.

Singer/songwriter Brigid O’Neill, described as having “a distinctive voice with sweet effortless vocals” (Creative Voice NI), will be performing a mix of country blues and folk with a dash of jazz.

Riding the crest of a wave following the launch of her acclaimed new EP, Arrivals and Departures, and festival performances including the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival, this show will see Brigid performing with a five-piece band of top musicians.

As well as Brigid’s own heartfelt, strongly crafted songs, for which she has been steadily building her own fan base, she will be putting her own twist on some classics from the Great American Song Book, and the best of Americana from favourite singers such as Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris.

Next to seeing the man himself, The Diamond Experience is also the best way to enjoy the magic of Neil Diamond’s music.

This fully live musical production features all the top hits from his best-selling albums, as well as songs from his latest release, Melody Road.

Fronting this show is Adam McDonald who has been lead vocalist for several top bands during his career and has a friendly relaxed style that always goes down well with the audience.

The show includes favourites such as Sweet Caroline, Cracklin’ Rose, I Am I Said and America, and the duet, You Don’t bring Me Flowers.

Both performances start at 8pm.

Also on Saturday at 1pm and 2.30pm, circus performers The Sharp Dressed Men will be on the promenade in Newcastle entertaining families with their double-act of dangerous juggling, high flung Diablo tricks and thundering whip cracking.

Then on Sunday from 3pm to 5pm the Bailies Mills Accordion Orchestra will provide music on the promenade outside the Newcastle Centre.
