Murlough ladies run in Barcelona

29 February 2012

MURLOUGH AC was well represented at the Barcelona Half Marathon on Sunday when 12,500 runners lined up at the start line, among them Marguerite Robinson, Jill Murphy and Pat Crawford from Dundrum-based club.

The race started 8.45am sharp at the Passeig Pujades, in front of the Ciutadella Park and near the Arc de Triomf, and took in many of the sights of the beautiful city.

Temperatures rose to 20 degrees during the race, quite a few degrees higher than the conditions the Murlough ladies were used to training in. Pat Crawford wasn’t sure if she’d be able to make it to the start as she had sustained a recent injury, but cometh the hour, cometh the woman, she donned her Murlough AC vest and lined up with her club mates at the start.

Despite taking a tumble in the early stages of the race, Marguerite went on to finish in a very impressive 1.51, making her the first of the three Murlough ladies to cross the finish line followed by Jill and then Pat.

All three women did their club proud and are all ready planning their next challenge, watch this space.
