THE 2017 Ulster Motocross Championship arrived in County Down on May Day, when the Mourne Motorcycle Club hosted the second round at Seaforde MotoPark.

The Clubmen MX1 class was first to the line, with Johnny Haywood winning all three races.

The top placed County Down riders were Ballygowan’s Brian Presho and Jamie Friel, from Saintfield, who were fighting for top-ten placed finishes.

In the first race Friel ped from third to seventh position on lap two, before finally finishing in fifth position behind Presho in fourth.

In the second race Friel came from fourth on lap one to take a second placed finish, as Presho came home in twelfth position.

n the final race Freil came home in fourth and Presho finished in seventh position.

The second group on the line was the combined Experts and Semi-Experts MX2 class with Loughbrickland brothers Jason and Callum Meara leading the way.

In the first race Milisle rider Luke Smith took the hole shot and led until the end of lap three, when Jason finally took the lead, which he held to take the victory ahead of Smith in second position and his brother Callum, who came home in sixth position and was the top Semi-Expert finisher.

In the second race Smith led off the line once again as Jason Meara had to fight back from tenth position on lap one to second position on lap six when the race was red-flagged due to an injured rider.

The results were taken from the last full lap (lap five), with Smith taking the victory, Jason Meara in third and Callum Meara the top Semi-Expert finisher in sixth position.

In the final race, Jason Meara battled for the lead with Glenoe rider Glenn McCormick until four laps from the end when Meara took the lead and his second victory of the day, ahead of Smith in fifth. Callum Meara came home in sixth to take his third victory in the Semi-Experts class.

The third class on the line was the Clubmen MX2 class with Ballygowan man Johnny Presho winning the first two races ahead of Downpatrick’s Darren McMullan in second position.

In the final race Presho led off the line again, but McMullan fought through to take the win ahead of Presho, who came home in second position.

The combined Experts and Semi-Experts MX1 class was last to the line, with Lisburn’s Richard Bird winning all three races ahead of Dublin rider Jim O’Neill in second position. Banbridge man Ryan Adair earned fourth, fifth and sixth placed finishes.

Jordan Scott, from Newtownards, was the top County Down rider with third, fourth and third position finishes, before he was excluded from the results of the final race after mechanical failure led to him using a different bike.
