Moderator gives seal of approval to hall in Saintfield

14 December 2011

SECOND Saintfield Presbyterian Church’s new hall complex has been officially opened by the Moderator of the General Assembly.

The Rt. Rev. Ivan Patterson was invited to perform the recent opening and also dedicate a new church organ and audio visual system.

After a special service of morning worship, a light lunch was provided for the Moderator and his wife and other special guests including the builders and architects of the project.

The Rev. Doctor Graham Connor, Minister at Second Saintfield, invited the distinguished guests to say a few words to the congregation about the project.

A number of gifts were then presented on behalf of the congregation to people involved in the hall project in recognition of the hard work and effort they put in to complete the work on time.

Dr. Connor said the congregation was delighted to welcome the Rev. Patterson to the pulpit in Second Saintfield to share in the special occasion for the church.

He added: “We were also pleased to welcome so many people from the local community in Saintfield to tour the halls on the Monday evening. We hope that these buildings will become a real asset to the Saintfield community as well as our congregation.”

Various organisations within the church got involved in the open evening.

The Boys’ Brigade’s Junior Section set up an assault course for visiting children to get involved in, while the BB Company Section showed off their box work skills.

The Girl’s Brigade and Sunday School leaders had a number of crafts to keep children entertained while their parents took a tour of the new facilities.

The ladies from the Friendship Group provided delicious Christmas refreshments and nibbles for visitors as the new complex was filled with a real sense of community. Members of the congregation were delighted to welcome so many visitors into the new building.

Work to renovate the hall complex began in March, with the building open to the congregation in mid-November.

The modern hall now provides a main sports hall, two modern well-equipped meeting rooms, a youth room, a dedicated children’s room, church office and a spacious and welcoming foyer, with the congregation delighted with the new facilities.

Sunday morning worship at 2nd Saintfield begins at 11am and everyone is most welcome. To find out more about the various organisations associated with Second Saintfield, visit www.secondsaintfield.org.uk.
