Mills exit Irish Cup

12 November 2014

DRUMANESS fielded a weakened team with five first time players unavailable for this Irish Cup third round tie on Saturday.

Football was hard to play at a rain-lashed and windswept Meadowvale, but both teams set about it well in the early stages.

Within five minutes of kick off the Mills found themselves behind when they failed to clear a loose ball and Stewart rattled the ball into the net.

Minutes later the home team should have been level when Rory Mason floated a long ball from deep in his own half towards Manley, who took it down well and with only the keeper to beat shot straight at the keeper.

The home team settled well to the task and Mason was unlucky to see a rasping shot fizz just over the bar.

McConnell and Feenan combined well to send Manley down the right. His cross found Stefan Mason, whose shot was well saved.

Half time brought welcome respite from the driving rain for both sides and the home team came out strongly after the break.

Rory Mason got to the byline, sent over the cross and Neale glanced his header over the bar.

Disaster then struck when Stewart broke free and although he looked off side the referee waved play on. Keenan rushed out and pulled Steward down, with the result that he was given a red card and Brantwood scored from the penalty spot.

Stefan Mason made way for Campbell to come into goal and his first touch was lifting the ball out of the back of the net as Stewart slotted home the penalty to out the visitors 2-0 ahead.

The rest of the second half was pretty uneventful until the last ten minutes when Drumaness pulled a goal back through Neale and the visitors had four yellow cards issued in the space of five minutes.

In added on time Burrows received a straight red card for a foul on Grant, which left both teams a man short.

The final whistle went and now the Mills return to league action this week at home to Nortel.
