BALLYNAHINCH’S Michael Kelly won a silver medal at the recent Skillbuild NI finals in Enniskillen.

The South Eastern Regional College student, who studies heavy motor vehicle engineering, was delighted with his success at the high profile competition.

Commending Michael and his mentors on their hard work and dedication, the College’s Head of School for Construction and Engineering said competitions like Skillbuild NI provide a “unique stage” for apprentices to demonstrate the skills and expertise they have gained whilst studying.

John Nixon explained the competition attracts the best up and coming young talent in a range of construction trades from across the Province, adding: “Their success is a credit to the lecturers who have been supporting them in advance of the intense competition.”

Skillbuild NI — run and governed by CITB NI — is held annually each spring with the top local construction apprentices competing to win coveted titles ranging from brickwork to wall and

floor tiling. Winners may then go on to represent Northern Ireland in the Skills Show UK and potentially at the WorldSkills championship.
