Menagh bows out of Assembly elections

3 March 2017

COMMUNITY worker Jimmy Menagh will not attempt another Stormont election.

Facing elimination in Strangford with 1,627 votes, he said he would now concentrate on his work with Ards and North Down Council.

Jimmy said Independent candidates like himself faced a particular struggle in this election with voters returning to party politics, while traditional parties were at an advantage due to their electioneering capacity in the short run-in to the election.

"I have held my own though," he said.

"I am happy enough and will concentrate on working for the people, which is what I enjoy."
