McComiskeys lead Dundrum to spoils over Aughlisnafin

13 April 2016

DUNDRUM opened their Division 4 campaign with a deserved victory over a hapless Aughlisnafin offering.

The Duns lost the corresponding fixture last year but they were in bullish form this time around.

The first ten minutes saw both sides struggle to acclimatise to the dreadful weather conditions.

It was 0-2 each in this period with Breannaín McComiskey and Jamie Allen pointing for the hosts and Cormac Venney and David McComiskey registering for the away side.

Led by the sheer doggedness of captain Aaron Doyle at midfield, Dundrum constructed a goal with full forward John McKibben slotting to the net soccer style.

Paul McComiskey and Aaron Doyle tagged on with minors with the ‘Fin adding another two before a fine Eamon King point sent the Duns in at half-time leading by four.

With the rain pelting down at Annsborough, both sides took the field for the second half.

Unfortunately the ‘Fin lost their discipline and imploded — they failed to register a single score in the second half.

Cormac Venney got the ball rolling before David McComiskey smashed home a majestic three pointer after some fine interplay with Oisin McKibbin.

Kieran Walsh added a free with Cormac Venney getting the Duns’ third goal with a close range tap-in.

Paul McComiskey’s long range free then flew into the ‘Fin net for a fourth three-pointer and it was lights out.

Post splitters from Venney, McKibbin and Hurley closed the game out and earned the Reds a modicum of revenge and the two points.
